IMDb Brad Pitt film ratings, popcorn & a boys night in

A 54-film IMDb list produced a better story than a simple ranking: longer films, repeat directors and one exceptional late-1990s run.

This post was prompted by a lovely weekend with the boy. The girls were away; the boys did parkrun, crazy golf, beach-front arcades, ice cream and a film night.

The film-night choice: Ocean’s Eleven. A solid 7.7 IMDb rating — above Pitt’s 7.1 career median in this list — and somehow a film released back in 2001.

Obviously my next move was to extract a list of 54 Brad Pitt films from IMDb for a quick coffeetableviz post. I expected an obvious ranking story. Best film. Worst film. Done.

But runtime, director and peak era were more interesting.

Longer runtime tends to mean better rated

Ratings generally rise with runtime in this 54-film list. That does not mean an extra half-hour magically improves a film. It does mean the higher-rated films tend to offer a few more Pitt screen minutes.

Then there is Fincher

Six directors appear at least twice. David Fincher comes out top: 8.40 across three films — Seven at 8.6, Fight Club at 8.8 and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at 7.8.

Quentin Tarantino is next at 8.00 across two films. The pattern is not only about duration; some of Pitt’s strongest ratings also cluster around particular collaborators.

The late 1990s were the sweet spot

TLDR

The story is less “which Brad Pitt film is best?” and more: longer films tend to rate better, Fincher is his strongest repeat-director partnership in this list, and 1995–99 is the strongest five-year run.
